Gavin and his wife Elaine moved to Perth about three
years ago and settled in Perth Baptist within a few months.
"I have no strong denominational preferences" said Gavin, "so when we came to Perth there was no sense
of inevitability about PBC becoming our home. Moving to a town in which we knew no-one was a little daunting; we settled in the Baptist church because we were so welcomed and knew from the start that it was
a place in which we would make friends and enjoy fellowship" he said. "I deny categorically that we joined the Baptist church because it had the best hillwalking club!" he added.
Since coming to Perth, Gavin has had a number of jobs, including working for the Billy Graham
Evangelistic Association, doing press, media and research work for "Festival '99 with Franklin Graham", and working in the NHS. During 2001, Gavin joined Christian computer company
STRAITWAY to work on the ACTUALReality Project, helping with research, communication and ministry.
Gavin
explains: "As well as demonstrating and promoting the use of
good Christian software, we're involved in writing resources with
Crusaders, to help young people, youth leaders, teachers and parents
to get the best from them. You can see some of the stuff we've done
at www.actualreality.org.uk (unabashed plugging, I know!)"
(Updated 2006 - Actual Reality website no longer exists)
Gavin is a committed Christian, who made his first step towards faith aged seven, and had a
life-changing encounter with God aged 17. At University he studied History and Politics, and as a postgraduate, researched race-relations in American History. He is now a part-time student
at International Christian College in Glasgow, working towards a theology degree.
Since
moving to Perth, Gavin has held on to his one wife, but gained a
new son, Timothy.
